5 Simple Ways to Capture Content as a Busy Small Business Owner

Updated: Aug 17, 2023

As a small business owner, you wear multiple hats. You are the CEO, the HR manager, the accountant, and the marketer, among other roles. It can be challenging to juggle all of these roles effectively, especially when it comes to content creation for social media. With limited time and resources, how can service-based small business owners capture content efficiently and effectively?

1. Plan Ahead

One of the best ways to capture content efficiently is to plan ahead. Take some time to create a content calendar for social media. This way, you can map out your content for the month or even the quarter, which can give you a sense of direction and ensure that you stay consistent.

A content calendar can also help you stay organized and ensure that you don't miss any important events or holidays that you want to celebrate on social media.

2. Repurpose Content

Creating new content from scratch can be time-consuming, so consider repurposing content that you already have. For instance, you could turn a long-form blog post into a series of social media posts or pull quotes from customer testimonials to use as social media captions. Repurposing content can be a great way to save time while still providing value to your audience.

3. Work with a Social Media Marketing Agency

As a busy small business owner, you may not have the time or expertise to create content for social media. In that case, consider working with a social media marketing agency, such as Blu Emerald Media Services. Social media agencies like ours can help you create and execute a content strategy, manage your social media accounts, and monitor the effectiveness of your campaigns. By working with an agency, you can free up your time to focus on what you do best - running your business.

4. Document Your Process

One of the key challenges of content creation is coming up with new ideas, so document your process for capturing content. For example, you could make a note whenever you have an idea for a social media post, take a photo or video whenever you are working on a project, or ask customers for their feedback on your products or services. When you document your process, you can refer back to it whenever you need inspiration for social media content.

5. Harness the Power of the B-Roll

Finally, a ridiculously easy method for creating reels has been rising as a social media trend - the B-Roll. B-roll footage has historically been supplemental footage or alternative footage used to provide a cutaway or visual context to the main footage.

Capturing B-Roll footage is as easy as setting up a tripod in your workspace and continue to operate as you normally would. Set 3-5 seconds of your B-roll footage up against a trending audio sound within Instagram and overlay it with something valuable or inspirational to your audience and VOILA! Content!

In conclusion, capturing content as a busy small business owner can be challenging, but there are ways to make it more manageable. By planning ahead, repurposing content, working with an agency, documenting your process, and using B-roll footage, you can create a consistent and effective social media presence without sacrificing too much of your time. Remember that creating social media content is an investment in your brand and your business, so it's worth taking the time to get it right.
